About Water Filter System Maintenance

Water Filter System Maintenance

All water filter systems need maintenance. Some may need routine flushing while others may need a change of cartridge. But, contrary to general belief, the water filter systems' maintenance is not a difficult task. Any house owner can maintain his water filter with relative ease.

The most important is to follow the manual supplied by the manufacturer. The manual lists the life of a water filter in terms of months or the number of gallons of water it can clean. The user must make sure that he changes the filter cartridge once the cartridge's life expires.

A good way to know this is by noting the water flow. The flow of water becomes a trickle when the cartridge gets choked with impurities. The user must then replace it with a fresh cartridge. When doing so, the user must make sure that the cartridge he buys is the one specified in the manual. A good practice is to have a spare cartridge. This saves the user the bother of searching for a new cartridge when the existing cartridge stops working.

In the case of water filter systems that use ceramic candles, the candles need to be removed from the canisters and washed thoroughly under running water. This removes any dirt that may have clogged the pores of the candle. The candle then can be used again to filter water. However, the candles, like cartridges, have a fixed life. The user cannot continue to use a candle forever. The candle needs to be replaced once its life expires.

The water filter systems that use the reverse osmosis technology are the only ones that need professional cleaning. This is because they use a five or six-part filtration system, with each unit filtering a different kind of impurity. In this case, the user should take the help of the company's trained mechanics to maintain the water filter system.
