A filter cartridge can clean 300 gallons of water. It also reduces the possibility of lime scales forming in the water pipe. Some Samsung filters also remove chemicals like mercury, lead, cyst, or benzene.

The normal life of a Samsung water filter is six months. After that it must be changed. To help people realize that the filter's life is over an indicator light comes up. Also, the flow of water from the dispenser slows down.

The Samsung filter cartridges vary from filter to filter. When going for replacements, the users are required to buy only those cartridges that are specified in the manual. Any refrigerator owner can change the cartridge easily. However, before changing the cartridge the water source must be disconnected. After that the filter must be pulled out gently, and replaced by the new filter.

The water line should be turned on to check for leaks. If there are no leaks then the filter can be allowed to function. In case of leaks, a Samsung mechanic should be summoned after disconnecting the water filter from the water supply.

Samsung advises its users to buy two or three replacement cartridges at a time. This saves the user the bother to search for filter cartridges when they expire.
