Refrigerator water filters clean water and remove odor

The introduction of refrigerator water filters has added more value to refrigerators. Now, you don’t have to fill water bottles and store them in the refrigerator for getting chilled. The refrigerators are fitted with water filters, which in turn are attached to the domestic water line. The filters clean the water flowing through the pipes, and route it to the water dispenser where it gets chilled.

The placement of water filter differs from fridge to fridge. In most refrigerators, the water filter is placed either in the upper right side of the refrigerator or behind the vegetable bin. The filter removes chlorine, dirt or other particles that may be present in the water before routing it to the water dispenser. It also reduces the bad taste or odor that may be present in the water.

The life of water filter used in a refrigerator is around six months or so. After that the filter needs to be changed. This is a simple process In Frigidaire refrigerator, for instance, the old filter cup is unscrewed and the water thrown out. Next the old filter is twisted in an anti-clockwise circle and pulled out. The new filter is then pushed straight down into the fridge, and turned in a clockwise direction for half a circle.

In the case of Whirlpool, you need to press the button to the right of the filter to release it. After this, the old filter can be pulled out and discarded. In its place, the new filter is pushed down. There is a click when it falls in place. After replacing the water filter, you should let 2 to 3 gallons of water to flow through the filter before using the water. The same must be done when switching on the refrigerator after along break.
