Choices of Home Filter
Water filters for home come in a variety of shape and sizes. Before buying any water filters for home, there are two things that must be kept in mind. The first is the scope of filtration and the second is the ease of installation. There are water filters that just remove the sediment and odor while there are others that also remove micro organisms and even small particles.
There are several water treatment filters available in the market today. Most of these can be connected directly to the home water lines to produce clean and healthy drinking water. Some of the filters that you can choose are
1. Whole house filters: These filters are installed in the main water line entering the home, making it possible to filter sediment and rust particles from the water at the entry point itself. These filters not only clean the water but also improve its quality thereby eliminating occurrences of lime scaling and spotting. You can further use these filters at various individual points in your house in which case the whole house filter becomes a sort of pre-filter point.
2. Undersink filters: These filters come in a wide range. It comes with multiple cartridges and need to be installed in the cold water line under your sink. Each cartridge removes a particular kind of contaminant and you can use it in either isolation or in combination with the others, depending on what you want to remove. Some just improve the taste of the water and remove odor; others also remove lead, bacteria and sediment.
The undersink filters are convenient because, once installed, they do not need any further handling. Every time you turn on the tap, the filtered water comes straight from the faucet. Their biggest advantage is that they don’t block space in the kitchen. They can be mounted beneath the sink leaving the counter tops free for kitchen work.
3. Faucet-mounted filters: These filters connect directly to the faucet and need no plumbing. These are usually very basic filters and are suitable for removing odor, and in some cases lead and cyst. But that is the most that these filters can do. Also, these units are highly visible and therefore compromise the look of your kitchen.
4. Countertop or Canister filters: These are the simplest filters available; they are placed on the counter and filled with water. The water is cleaned by a filter candle which is fixed inside the tank. Some of these filters have the option of being connected to a water source. However, filtration is only basic in these filters though the ease of use is enormous.
5. Reverse osmosis filters: These filters use membranes to filter out sediment as well as micro organisms. The filtration level of these filters is quite high.
