Filter System Maintenance
There are several kinds of drinking water filters available in the market today. The most elementary or basic are the Countertop or Canister filters. These water filters use a cleaning candle which is installed inside a water tank. The candle removes all impurities like sediment, small particles or rust that may be present in the water. The filtered water then flows out through a tap.
Another drinking water filter that has gained in popularity these days is the tap water filter. This too is a basic filter, and can remove only minor impurities like rust or particles that may be present in the running water. But it does improve the taste and smell of the water by removing chlorine or any other chemical that may be present.
The most elaborate water filters are those that use the reverse osmosis method. These filters have fine membranes that trap all dirt particles and even micro organisms. The water that flows out of such filters is of high quality.
Some homes prefer to install whole house water filters. These filters can be very elaborate and have several filtration units or they can be simple and work as pre-filters only. In either case, these filters are attached to the water line entering the home. They are very sturdy and can easily service about 100,000 gallons of water.
Another water filter that is used for cleaning drinking water is the distiller. This is like a water heater that is connected to an electric point. In this filter, the water is first boiled, and then condensed. The impurities present in the water are left behind. The heat also kills most micro organisms that may be present in the water. The only disadvantage of this filter is that it takes too long to produce clean water, and consumes a lot of electricity.
Besides this, the user can also consider buying back flush filters, magnetic water filters or Pi water filters.
